Hello, I am Amora Shams, I have been teaching bellydance since 1993, I have a vast experience teaching this dance thought 30 years in London, Spain, Florida and Egypt, and on year 2008, I created a course were you can learn everything of what is to become a bellydancer from zero to professional level in just 20 days at the speed of 3 hours per day plus the rest of the time for you to do the written and practical homeworks. As is the most intensive bellydance course on earth, it's advised to spread it in 28 days program taking one day a week off and an extra day for revision before the level exams
The program was designed after 15 years teaching my students in a very unique teaching techniques were they all learn amazingly quickly, I teach the old school of bellydance the traditional bellydance, don't come to me if you want to learn to seduce men or your husband, because I teach to create professional high quality belly dancers and all my life I have been dancing and teaching this dance to elevate the quality of the tradition, so does not disappear as is in danger of extinction.
The answer to the post is a resume of my BBDC "Become a BellyDancer Course", so here is the answer to your question:
Tô become a BellyDancer first you need to learn choose a good teacher, someone who knows about the history of bellydance and different styles, about the therapeutical use of the correct ancestral techniques, not modern degenerated moves, someone who can teach to absolute beginners the same as to professional performers to become better artists, then when you found the teacher, you will have to study the program she teaches totally focus, no distraction unless she tells you.
Once you have the proper teacher, then you have to learn the proper techniques, nowadays only successful BBDC students teach the correct techniques, I could name some of them: Ariya Bellydance, Carmella bellydance, Yasmin Falzon Bellydance, Chandra Wood, etc. and of course myself and my master teacher or mentor Alia Shams which she is more focus in the spiritual energetic side of Bellydance.
Then when you already know how to do correctly the movements from the most easy to the most difficult ones.
Then you need to learn how to improvise traditionally to the music, recognising firstly each instrument, then knowing what to move and how to move accordingly to the sound you hear, then is time for you to learn how to dance to taxis, baladys and percussions, at that stage you are ready to absorve how to use the cymbals, then how to dance with them, is not easy at the beginning but after lots of practice you get use to it, and you can dance with them as if you didn't had them on your fingers, but your body will move them while moving your hips as nothing , then at that stage you are ready to learn to dance with the veil, but you will also need to understand the tradition behind, and the meaning of what is to perform with them.
Once you achieve the previous stage, you are ready to understand the structure of the music composition, so you will learn easily how to create choreographies, learning to recognise the different stages of a traditional music structure, at that stage you are ready to learn how to present yourself as a performer to the public, then is when you learn how to dance with capes or Isis wings, and their meaning, secrets never shared by teachers, probably because they ignore them. At that stage is when you are ready to learn folkloric said cane dance, is fun!!
Now by this stage you kind of know what is to be a dancer, but is missing the most important to be successful, the tricks of the trade, those that you need to get bravos from your public, so you can also win on bellydance competitions, specially if your public are Arabs rich families, those are very exigent audience for a BellyDancer, you have to learn how to get a job in those places, you need to learn how to present yourself as a dancer, make up, marketing, posters, photo session, online marketing, how to sword, which dresses and costumes to pick for different occasions, which movements you can do and which one's not facing them, what to consider when you travel or go to a show, how to teach a successful class and how to create a dance school, and of course never the less, in the BBDC you also learn how to perform traditionally to Shamadan Candelabra and Sit Sword ritual dances.
Over all, this is the resume of the BBDC the course to become a professional BellyDancer.
